What if you added an option to post small updates that your followers would see? Things that are simply too short for a journal entry. Like if you want to notify your watchers of a livestream you're doing, or just to say, "No, I haven't forgot about your commisions."
Journals range from short quips about life to long expounding stories about someone's past. Adding a quick "update" notification, would just cut the difference. Instead of posting a journal that takes up a good amount of space on someone's page, the update would just take up enough space to get the point across. When someone is scrolling through their notifications and has to browse through multiple entries that take up only a few lines the reader starts to not care and just delete all the journal entries cuz they're just tired of loading a whole new page just to see one thing.
An "update" could be shown in the entirety in two lines from the persons messages page. It could contain links that would redirect, "Hey I'm doing a livestream: link" I believe this would save unnecessary clutter in journal history too. The biggest appeal to this is that people would actually read what people are posting. Instead of "Ug, I gotta click on all these journals just to see that Bob got a new cat." People could scroll down their message page and read what's happening, "Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, got it." If they want more information or want to comment they can click on it.
I think this would help with the overall organization of deviantArt. It would streamline checking messages too. What do you think?
